There are two local airports - Cherbourg Maupertus about 40 minutes, and Caen about 90 minutes drive.
There is an SNCF service running between Cherbourg and Paris via Caen. The nearest station is Chef du Pont/St Mere Eglise only 7 kms away, however this is an infrequent service, so we would recommend disembarking at Valognes if you have travelled from Cherbourg, or Carentan if you have come from Paris/Caen. You will then have to take a taxi for the final 15 kms.
There are frequent bus services to St Mere Eglise, and then take a taxi from there.
This is a great area for cycling. There is a cycle route from Cherbourg to St. Sauveur le Vicomte (Cherbourg leg opening Summer 2008), the road between St Sauveur and Picauville is extremely traffic free and level.
Ensure that you comply with European Motoring Requirements by carrying the following items of accident, emergency and breakdown equipment:
» Headlamp Beam Adaptors
» GB plate or sticker
» Spare exterior light bulbs
» Warning triangle and reflective vests (to be used in the event of a breakdown or an accident)
These are new requirements in France from July 2008.
